We build in Southampton. All of it: cable assemblies, wire harnesses, wiring looms, ribbon cables and RF assemblies, from the first prototype to volume production. There is no offshore facility, no offshore partner, and no second site quietly interpreting the standard a different way.
It has won us work on its own, which is why it is worth setting out properly rather than leaving as a line in a list.
Precision matters here, because plenty of suppliers use the phrase loosely and buyers have learned to test it.
What we manufacture in the UK: every assembly we supply. Wire preparation, crimping, soldering, loom construction, overmoulding, potting, inspection and electrical test all happen at Mount Pleasant Industrial Park, Southampton.
What we buy in: components. Connectors, contacts, cable, sleeving and heat shrink come from specialist manufacturers, many of them outside the UK. That is true of every cable assembly manufacturer in the country, including the ones who do not mention it, because the connector industry is global and there is no version of this business that avoids it.
So the accurate claim, and the one we make, is that our assemblies are manufactured in the UK from globally sourced components. We would rather tell you that than have you find it out.
One quality system, not several. Everything runs under a single integrated management system covering ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018, all UKAS accredited. One set of procedures, one set of records, one audit. If you approve us, you have approved the whole supply route, not the front end of it.
Traceability that goes all the way back. Every operation is recorded against the job and held electronically for a minimum of ten years. Those production and inspection records are ours, held here, rather than something we have to request from another site in another time zone.
Engineering changes go to the people doing the work. When a drawing changes, the conversation is with the engineer who will build it, not with an account manager who will relay it. There is no border between the revised drawing and the shop floor.
You can come and see it. Not a video, not a virtual tour. Our facility is a morning's drive from most of the country, and customers audit us in person. Being genuinely inspectable is a different proposition from being described.
Continuity. Southampton has been the manufacturing site since 1986, in a business founded in 1979 and owner-managed since 2003. There is no parent group that might move production, no acquired brand being consolidated somewhere cheaper.
The usual objection to UK manufacture is that it works for prototypes and falls over at volume. Ours does not, and the reason is investment rather than assertion.
| Batch size | From 1 prototype to 100,000+ |
|---|---|
| Automation | Komax robotic cut, strip, crimp and test machinery, with crimp force analysis on every crimp |
| Scheduling | Priority enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, in place since 2014 |
| Wire range | 32AWG micro-gauge to 150 mm² heavy-duty power |
| Complexity | Single cables to looms of over 1,000 circuits |
| Floor space | Over 10,000 sq ft, with room to expand |
Automation is what makes onshore volume work. A Komax Gamma does not care which country it is standing in, and it produces a more consistent crimp than a person does anywhere. What the UK site adds is the engineering judgement around it: our design for manufacture review usually finds more cost in connector selection and routing than an offshore labour rate would have saved.
Country of origin is not a preference in these sectors, it is a question on the form. Supply chain geography, sub-tier visibility and continuity of supply are all assessed directly, and our answer to each of them is the same single site.
Supply chain is one of the twelve areas assessed for our JOSCAR registration. The Joint Supply Chain Accreditation Register is the shared pre-qualification register used across aerospace, defence, security and space, and single-site UK manufacture makes that part of it a short conversation.
We have built for defence since the 1980s: naval vessels, land vehicles, unmanned platforms and radar systems, including every cable assembly for a British Army tactical radio programme delivered through the prime contractor. All of it made here.
We do not manufacture offshore. There is no partner facility overseas, and nothing we quote is work we intend to have built elsewhere and shipped in.
If we cannot build it in Southampton, we will tell you at quotation rather than after the order.
Send a drawing, a specification, or the assembly you are currently importing and would rather not be. We will quote it, and where we can see a better way of building it, say so.
